The Beveren Tunnel is a crucial economic artery in the Antwerp port area, with up to 4.75 million vehicles passing through each year. To ensure the infrastructure's viability in the future, a thorough renovation was necessary. The Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV) entrusted the TM Bever consortium with this vital project, including three BESIX entities: BESIX, BESIX Infra and BESIX Unitec.
On Monday, 3 November 2025, the renovated tunnel was inaugurated in the presence of Flemish Minister of Mobility, Public Works, Ports and Sports, Annick De Ridder. The opening of the tunnel for all traffic is planned for 13 November 2025.

The work began in the summer of 2024 and included a complete structural and technical upgrade. This involved installing a new ventilation system, 100 traffic cameras and energy-efficient LED lighting. Additionally, the first-aid stations on each side of the tunnel were updated and the emergency routes were modified. The road surface was replaced and the tunnel entrances received a modern redesign.
Moreover, a solar park with 750 solar panels was set up to provide about half of the tunnel's energy needs, and a water treatment station is installed to process 3.6 million litres of groundwater daily.
Thanks to these upgrades, the Beveren Tunnel meets the highest European standards for tunnel safety and is among the most modern motorway tunnels in Europe.
