Matisse 16. Deep Foundation Works in Evere

A three-phase construction process
Franki Foundations is in charge of the deep foundation works for Matisse 16, an ambitious mixed-use development by BESIX RED, located in the heart of Evere. This project will contribute to revitalising this Brussels district, situated between the European institutions and NATO headquarters.

Phase 1 – Retaining structures

The initial stage involved the construction of secant piles, forming retaining walls to secure the site.

Phase 2 – Installation of anchors

Tieback anchors were then installed through the secant piles to ensure the stability of the structure before beginning the main foundation works.

Phase 3 – Execution of PCS bored piles

The final phase currently underway involves drilling PCS bored piles using our BG33 Bauer rig.
In total, 258 piles will be executed, with diameters of 80 cm and 100 cm, and depths ranging from 10 to 20 metres.
After completing the elevated zone (9 m deep), the team is now tackling the more technical lower zone, reaching depths of up to 17.5 m and using approximately 15 m³ of concrete per pile.
